I found this story on firehouse.com, concerning career v volunteer fire department staffing in Lockport, NY - just outside of Buffalo.
While reading it, I immediately thought of the “maybe we will get a career fire department, or maybe we will stay volunteer, or maybe we will have both” situation in Millcreek Township. I also thought […]
Here is a link to a story on GoErie.com today about Lake Shore, for those of you who may be interested!
Also, here is a video from Mikey Z showcasing the Belle Valley Fire Department in 2008. Thanks Mike for passing it along!
Here is last year’s BVFD video as well, enjoy!
I’m not a big fan of raising people’s taxes by any means. However, for critical lifesaving services I think it is justified.
The Millcreek Township Supervisors are raising the Emergency Services Tax from ten dollars to 52 dollars according to yourerie.com. The Supervisors state that not even 40 percent of township residents donate to the volunteer […]
Dale Hannah has been doing excellent writing recently on the Erie Police Department’s staffing woes. Read them here.
But another staffing problem has another sector of public safety stretched thin. This story from WICU tells of a paramedic shortage at Emergycare. But the story tells some outright untruths.
It starts out…
Emergycare may remove paramedics from being stationed […]
There’s been talk of shutting down Lake Shore. There’s been talk of consolidating the Millcreek fire departments into one. There’s been talk of merging West Lake and Fairview.
And I’m not sure which story is true.
This story from GoErie.com yesterday, bascially assumes that Lake Shore’s station will be shut down altogether, and West Lake would be […]
Well, it sounds like it might be happening, the long-overdue hiring of career firefighters for Millcreek Township is set to be voted on next month by township supervisors. Check this story on WICU’s website.
From the sounds of it, it is to be a combination department (a mix of paid and volunteer firefighters). The five volunteer […]
Two of the aforementioned “firefighters” were fired from the Erie County 911 center after their role in the box-alarm pulling incident. Lake Shore (former) Fire Chief Brian Salvatore, 24, and (former) Deputy Chief Rob Burt, 33 were let go after being on administrative leave since the news of their involvement became general knowledge.
GoErie story here.

Confucious say:
Ian Enterline, you are a buffoon. It’s fine for you to visit.. just be sure to go home back to VA.
Yes, everything is fine in the Erie County fire service isn’t it? “There’s nothing to see here people, mind your own business.” Until this story on GoErie.com that is:
Millcreek Township police have identified the […]
After having lived in another locale for the last 3 1/2 years, I think the answer is yes it is. Like most things in Erie, it is about 10 to 15 years behind everywhere else. Take the Erie County 911 center/dispatch consolidation. Erie was the last of all of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties to consolidate, and […]
Thanks to Mike for the link to the Topix.com thread on Emergycare. It seems that things are really getting heated on one side of the argument over there. I mean, they’re really eating their own.
The one thing that I have noticed, is the usual bashing of people that have moved out-of-town to further their career […]
I live in Richmond, VA and work as a firefighter, but I try to make as many trips back to Erie is as humanly and financially feasible.
Mixing Erie and politics can be dicey, but I'm gonna try to do it here!
