We received a comment this morning from Realtor Paul Gornall, at Pro-Realty, that National City Bank has now purchased the empty lot where the Koehler Brewery once stood. The Bank acquired the lot for around 7,400 dollars. The developers defaulted on a loan of over 800,000 dollars.
I would hope that the city is a bit more pro-active than usual in ensuring that the lot is properly zoned and that they work with National City to find a buyer that will complement and improve the value of land in the area.
Unfortunately, it would appear that any chance the city had to recoup taxpayer money has disappeared.
I am a life-long resident of Erie County, twenty years of which were spent living in the City of Erie. I retired from the tool-and-die trade two years ago, and now have time to enjoy the opportunity to observe city and county goings-on in more depth.
I hope to create a venue to suggest new ideas and solutions to exisiting problems with my blog, 'What If?'.
