There is an interesting piece at National Review Online, penned by Lisa Schiffren, which takes a look at Obama’s friends, background, Senate history, and other items. She goes on to suggest that perhaps John McCain and Co. should start asking Obama to explain in his own words the truth behind the stories. Of course we’ll never hear the truth. There’s just too much there that would be embarrassing to the messiah should the truth be told.
The article is called “Take This and Run”. No matter who you favor, the article brings up some food for thought.
Please read it, then comment. And let’s try to keep it civil, without personal attacks on other commenters. That’ll make things a lot more pleasant. Thanks.
I am a life-long resident of Erie County, twenty years of which were spent living in the City of Erie. I retired from the tool-and-die trade two years ago, and now have time to enjoy the opportunity to observe city and county goings-on in more depth.
I hope to create a venue to suggest new ideas and solutions to exisiting problems with my blog, 'What If?'.

Dale,
I read the Lisa Schiffren article on NationalReview.com. Howver, I could not access it through the link on your post?!
Well, given that she is identified as a speechwriter, I found the article to be a mediocre opinion piece written ,obviously, from a Republican point of view.
Personally, I want to see how both candidates fare tonight in the town hall format of debate. I am still finding their platforms lacking on the details of solutions. Perhaps, my expectations are too great? Perhaps, it is too much to ask that these campaigns strive for intelligent dialogue with the American people on the crises facing all of us. Stop focusing on the Keating Five and the Willam Ayers affiliations and bring
the politics to a higher level of civility and cease the immature attacks. I did agree with Ms. Schiffren’s statement that people can be, “Smart but wrong…” Judgement does matter. And disagreed with her assessment that Senator Obama displays “arrogance bordering on treason.” Her opinion that “Apparently he wanted to make it look as if the troops were coming home due to him.” Did nothing but bring to mind Ronald Reagan and the Iran hostage crisis and the manipulation by that new incoming Reagan administration to hold the hostage release until after the election and inauguration. Ring any bells??? Sleezey. When we as a nation face situations such as that- I think it is reasonable to expect them to behave honorably and bring those people home in a timely and appropriate way! Also, does that not also “run both ways” in reference to the manner in which President Bush is now modifying the troop reductions and redistribution in Iraq and Afghanistan and could it not be said that the Republican administration may be orchestrating certain events to bolster Senator McCain’s electability?? Just wondering?
So, in conclusion, I personally just want more from these two candidates for President of the United States. We are in dangerous times. We face turmoil and hardship economically, socially, and globally. Be men of honor and integrity. Be men of intelligence and maturity. Live up to the potential of America to be a nation of leadership, compassion, and honesty. Ask the American people to sacrifice if we truly need to- ALL of us , not just one class. Be unafraid to behave as the best of our forefathers did and bring respect back to the political process. That’s the end of my two cents…. thanks for asking.

Emotion is a wonderful thing. It allows you to excuse in one instance what you would be outraged about in another.
