Today is a very important day in Erie County. No matter which candidate or party you support, get out there and cast your vote.
I’ve written many times before that those who care about Erie should make sure they vote in the local elections. In many ways, your vote for Erie County Executive or your town’s school board is way more important than your vote for President or for the U.S. Senate.
These people are the ones who set the real agenda for Erie’s future.
Get out there and make your choices.
After more than six years working as a journalist in Erie, I'm now the web editor for the Chronicle of Philanthropy in Washington, D.C., and the publisher of GlobalErie.com. I still maintain close ties to Erie - a community that I care about deeply. I hope this Web site can help inspire a better future for Erie.

I unfortunately could not really vote in the primaries, as I am a registered independent. That is one thing I think PA should change.

Katie:
Good point. When I lived in Massachusetts, registered Independents could vote in the primary for the slate for either one of the major parties. If you felt as though the Democratic primary was particularly important one year, you could vote the Democratic ballot. If you felt the Republican races were more important, you could cast your votes for the GOP candidates.

Katie, several years ago my wife and I flipped a coin and registered one Rep and one Dem so we could at least vote in the primaries. Now we don’t want to be affiliated with any party, so we’re going independent. I’m planning a post soon detailing the problems and possibilities. Keep reading GlobalErie for some info soon.

Thanks Dale.
And if any of you aren’t checking out Dale’s blog, I encourage you to do so. He’s posting a great mix of reporting and opinion about Erie.
