Money magazine has rated Millcreek as the 12th best place to buy an affordable home.
It’s certainly worthy of the distinction. When I tell folks down here in the D.C. area what I had paid for my former home in Millcreek, the number absolutely floors them.
Here’s an excerpt:
Millcreek has its own little Eden in the form of Presque Isle State Park, a slender crescent-shaped peninsula on the south shore of Lake Erie. Residents flock to this nature preserve for sunbathing, scuba diving, skiing, and hiking.
The township of Millcreek is an upscale adjunct to Erie, with lake view houses starting around $250,000.
For the record, Millcreek is ranked between Stow, Ohio, and Winston-Salem, N.C.
Topping the list is Fort Smith, Ark.
Thanks to Amanda Prischak for pointing this out.
After more than six years working as a journalist in Erie, I'm now the web editor for the Chronicle of Philanthropy in Washington, D.C., and the publisher of GlobalErie.com. I still maintain close ties to Erie - a community that I care about deeply. I hope this Web site can help inspire a better future for Erie.

I’m not moving anywhere. This area is a marvelous place to live. It’s “affordable” and, for nine months, the weather is just fine. Live here and travel during those cold winter months if you can’t take the weather. If you like winter activities, don’t travel. This area is a well-kept secret.

Just moved to Summit Twp. from Tx. Had to get away from the heat and those hated Dallas Cowboys. Go Steelers.
