Fox News is reporting that Erie’s Tom Ridge has been taken off the list of potential running mates for Republican Sen. John McCain.
We’ve noted previously that Ridge’s pro-choice background could be a sticking point for McCain, who is trying to maintain his support from conservatives.
The Fox News report echoed that sentiment:
“it appears uproar from conservative leaders and activists have popped the trial balloon and McCain may be forced to consider a more traditional Republican,” the report said.
So, what do you think Ridge’s next step should be? Is his career in politics officially over? Will he end up with a spot in McCain’s cabinet should he win the election?
After more than six years working as a journalist in Erie, I'm now the web editor for the Chronicle of Philanthropy in Washington, D.C., and the publisher of GlobalErie.com. I still maintain close ties to Erie - a community that I care about deeply. I hope this Web site can help inspire a better future for Erie.

Ridge’s career is certainly not over. He’s too smart for that. There’s a chance that he could be offered a job in the cabinet. If Tom cares deeply enough, he’ll accept.

I had hoped that Ridge would be elected VP or President, because a VP or Presidentail library would be built in Erie and we’d have a new tourist attraction.
Seriously, his career isn’t over.He should set up an institute in Erie on peace, terrorism, and free states develoment and sustainability. Then he can insert himself into the news as a talking head and be called upon when needed. Kind of a bullpen for G.O.P. Administrations. He’s a nice, gray, capable politican, who can be called on when needed. Don’t like most of his ideological basis. But for the G.O.P. he’s a good relief pitcher or D.H. or pitch hitter.

No Ridge would not be a good VP.. I am also hoping if by some chance Mc(BUSH)Cain gets elected (purchases the office like Bush did) Ridge stays out of it all together. Ridge will keep screwing everyone he comes in contact and does business with!!

This is one news story. Other news services say Ridge is still in the running. I don’t think it affects Ridge’s political future at all.

People must live with the consequences of the choices they make.
Ridge’s opposition to the Strategic Defense Initiative, missiles in Europe and his support of the nuclear freeze movement coupled with his pro-abortion positions, viewed through the prism of history, were just wrong.
With a resurgent KGB lead Russia, Tom’s Benedictine nun positions are still wrong.
At the time, his positions garnered the support of the newspaper and Elsie Hillman, but it won’t help him now.
