Boy, it’s been a good week for Waldameer and its new roller coaster, the Ravine Flyer 2.
I mentioned earlier how the new coaster was rated the fourth-best ride in the world by CoasterFanatics.com.
Today, the coaster is getting big play in the New York Times in a story about old-fashioned roller coasters.
It includes a great video about the coaster.
After more than six years working as a journalist in Erie, I'm now the web editor for the Chronicle of Philanthropy in Washington, D.C., and the publisher of GlobalErie.com. I still maintain close ties to Erie - a community that I care about deeply. I hope this Web site can help inspire a better future for Erie.

Peter,
Just went on the Ravine Flyer II yesterday for the first time and an encore ride later in the day. I was very impressed with it. I have been riding coasters all of my life and it is one of the best ones out there. Hats off to the Nelson’s! Keep up the great work at a Great American Amusement Park!

I will admit that I have only a modest number of other coaster rides with which to compare the Ravine Flyer, but I loved it! I keep meaning to get over to the Tom Ridge Center to go to the top of the tower and just watch the ride for a while.
