Sue Palka is as recognizable a face in Washington, D.C., as Amanda Post or Karla Mullenax are in Erie.
The weather forecaster for D.C.’s Fox 5 has won several national awards for her work and has been the calming voice to millions of viewers who worry about the next snowstorm or heat wave.
But in her hometown of Erie, she is known as Sue Pompeani — a fixture at the Erie Playhouse.
My colleague, Sarah Sampsel, spent some time catching up with Sue recently. And Sarah is sharing what we learned with you through our latest GlobalErie profile.
After more than six years working as a journalist in Erie, I'm now the web editor for the Chronicle of Philanthropy in Washington, D.C., and the publisher of GlobalErie.com. I still maintain close ties to Erie - a community that I care about deeply. I hope this Web site can help inspire a better future for Erie.

Peter, let’s play “Who’s Missing?”:
Sue is as recognizable in DC as Amanda or Karla or —-
is in Erie…
I know you know it.
Oh..ah nuts…so much for equal billing…

Scott-
She’s DEFINITELY as recognized as Mr. Scott Bremner in and around Erie.
We just figured that was a given

Well, I was looking for recognizable women. But while we’re at it, she’s as recognizable as Scott Bremner, Paul Wagner, and David Belmondo.

Well, just for the record, I was hoping for a plug for Pat Van Zandt, the woman co-anchor from my station.
But thanks for the love.
All of this, of course, has nothing to do with an Erie native becoming an Emmy award winner in DC, which is what this post is supposed to be about.
For that digression, I apologize and congrats Sue!

A belated congratulations to Sue Pompeani, an old friend from Villa Maria Academy. I hope to see Sue at our class reunion in Erie on Fri., July 25, at the Plymouth Tavern. It’s a big one, but who’s counting? Life is good.
